Shasta Health-Care Workers Outline Union Bargaining Goals (1)

Health-care workers at Shasta Regional Medical Center in Redding, Calif., want competitive wages as well as better staffing ratios, improved health insurance and retirement benefits, and stronger job protections.

That’s from Roy Chung, director of organizing for the Caregiver Health Employees Union, which is now representing the employees.

“Workers and nurses at Shasta have a phrase—going up the hill,” Chung told Bloomberg Law May 3. Mercy Medical Hospital in Redding is on a hill about two blocks from Shasta, and it provides better pay and benefits to its union-represented workers, he said.
