Service Experts Can’t Use Email to Drag Competitor Back to Court

A New Jersey plumbing and HVAC company failed to drag a California competitor back into a trade-secrets lawsuit, when a district court said that newfound discovery materials didn’t reveal anything that would let the case be heard in New Jersey.

Service Experts made Ken Baxter sign a confidentiality agreement not to disclose trade secrets for three years after his employment ended. He went to work with Service Champions in California to develop a seven-week training program, and Service Experts sued, alleging he used their materials to build the course.
