Lawmakers in the Senate are split in their support for whether federal workers who take leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act should be paid during their time off Sept. 25.

The Senate voted 47 to 48 on a nonbinding motion from Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) to decline instructing the conference committee on the defense budget bill to include the Federal Employee Paid Leave Act.
