The Senate’s top labor panel advanced Kalpana Kotagal’s nomination to join the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, nearly a year after she was initially nominated to serve on the workplace civil rights agency.
The Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee voted 11-10 down party lines on Kotagal’s nomination to fill an empty seat on the commission.
Kotagal, a Democrat and civil rights attorney at Cohen Milstein Sellers & Toll PLLC, was first nominated by President Joe Biden in April 2022. She is filling a seat left vacant by Republican Commissioner Janet Dhillon, whose term expired last year.
