SEIU Appoints New General Counsel

The Service Employees International Union has appointed Nicole G. Berner as the group’s new general counsel.

Berner told Bloomberg BNA Jan. 30 that as general counsel she will advise union officials on legal matters and will oversee the legal department that employs 23 attorneys.

Berner, currently the deputy general counsel for the union, will succeed General Counsel Judy Scott, who’s retiring after 20 years in that role. Berner has worked for the union’s legal department since 2006, and will take over as GC effective Feb. 1.
