Securitas Guards to Get Vote on Ejecting SEIU as Representative

The National Labor Relations Board revived a bid to eject a union representing Securitas Services USA Inc. employees, in a decision that clarifies labor law rules particular to private security guards.

The NLRB can’t certify a union that represents both guards and other types of workers as the exclusive bargaining agent for security guards. But that prohibition doesn’t extend to processing decertification petitions to remove a union with guard and nonguard members that had been voluntarily recognized, the board said in its ruling Friday.
