Federal agencies can’t restrict funding to the City of Seattle for now under President Donald Trump’s anti-DEI and “gender ideology” executive orders, after a judge partially paused their enforcement.
Judge Barbara J. Rothstein granted a preliminary injunction sparing the city from having its federal grants conditioned on abstaining from diversity, equity, and inclusion programs the administration deems discriminatory, as well as policies supporting transgender and nonbinary individuals.
Seattle is likely to prevail that the conditions are contrary to the separation of powers, exceed the administration’s statutory authority, and must be set aside under the Administrative Procedures Act, Rothstein said.
