A Seattle City Council committee advanced a domestic workers’ “Bill of Rights” July 19, and the measure appears headed for passage by the full body.
The bill would require that domestic workers—who aren’t covered by the National Labor Relations Act—be given rest and meal breaks and be paid the minimum wage as required by municipal and city law. It also would establish a Domestic Workers Standards Board to recommend new labor standards involving areas such as retirement benefits, workers’ compensation, and sick leave.
