Seattle Adds Hazard Pay for Some Grocery Workers During Pandemic

Large grocery stores must pay workers in Seattle an additional $4 an hour in during the pandemic, the city council said in an ordinance passed Jan. 25.

The additional $4 an hour in hazard pay, which is on top of regular hourly compensation, took effect Jan. 25 and is to continue until the coronavirus pandemic emergency ends.

The ordinance applies to grocery companies with at least 500 workers worldwide, stores with more than 10,000 square feet, and stores with more than 85,000 square feet and at least 30% of the sales floor devoted to groceries. The measure does not apply ...
