San Francisco Sues DoorDash Over Worker Classification

Gig employer DoorDash Inc. is violating California unfair business practices law by misclassifying workers as independent contractors, the San Francisco district attorney said in a lawsuit.

DoorDash “has systematically misclassified workers and in so doing deprived workers of labor law safeguards to which they’re legally entitled,” including paying minimum and overtime wage and being covered by discrimination protections, San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin told reporters. And that puts employers that follow the law and classify workers as employees at a competitive disadvantage.
