Recreational Equipment Inc. workers at a store in San Diego, Calif. voted to unionize in the midst of ongoing tension between the outdoor equipment company and the United Food and Commercial Workers.
About 119 workers at the Southern California store will join the UFCW Local 135, the union announced Friday. The election marks the twelfth REI store across the US that has voted to unionize.
The San Diego shop’s election also marks the largest REI store to unionize, according to the UFCW.
