Salvation Army Accused of Underpaying Rehab Program Users (2)

The Salvation Army fails to pay vulnerable people who live and work in its adult rehabilitation centers minimum wages or overtime pay, according lawsuits filed in federal court on Wednesday in New York, Illinois, and Georgia on behalf of three groups of workers.

Participants in the rehabilitation programs are often marginally housed, very poor, suffer from addiction problems or mental illness, or are entangled in the criminal justice system, according to the Illinois complaint. Some enroll voluntarily, while others do so as an alternative to incarceration.
