Salary History Queries New No-No for North Carolina Agencies (1)

North Carolina agencies are barred from asking job applicants about their salary histories under a new executive order.

Gov. Roy Cooper (D) signed Executive Order No. 93 April 2 in an effort to address the pay gap between men and women in the state. He joins several other governors that have taken such action, including those from Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, according to the American Association of University Women.

Under Cooper’s order, issued on Equal Pay Day, state agencies can’t ask applicants for their job histories or use prior compensation information to decide salary offers. ...
