Safety Agency Renews National Heat Stress Inspections Program

The US Occupational Safety and Health Administration renewed its nationwide heat protections enforcement program, showing the agency isn’t shifting away from its recent focus on keeping workers safe from heat-related illnesses.

Heat-related inspections accounted for 6% percent of all OSHA inspections during the last five years, the agency said. This is up from 0.5% annually from when the national emphasis program first went into effect in 2022.

The agency is encouraging early intervention measures from employers to prevent heat illnesses, injuries, and deaths among workers when temperatures rise. OSHA plans to combine targeted enforcement, employer outreach, and compliance assistance. ...
