Ryder Last-Mile Drivers’ $5 Million Wage Deal Gets Judge’s OK

Ryder System Inc. and its subsidiary are closer to finalizing a $5 million settlement that would resolve a lawsuit alleging they misclassified 950 last-mile delivery drivers as independent contractors, rather than employees, now that a California federal judge granted preliminary approval of the deal and certified the class.

The class members will split about $3.4 million after certain deductions. Class counsel plans to file a separate motion requesting $1.2 million in attorneys’ fees and $20,000 in costs.
