Quest Diagnostics Will Pay $90,000 to Settle Religious Bias Suit

Quest Diagnostics Inc. will pay $90,000 and furnish other relief to settle an EEOC religious discrimination lawsuit, the commission said in a press statement on Monday.

The medical testing laboratory allegedly told a phlebotomist—a practicing Seventh Day Adventist —it would no longer accommodate her religious beliefs by exempting her from working Saturdays, after doing so for the first nine years of her employment there.

The phlebotomist began working for the company in 2008 and was fired in 2019 for failing to work scheduled Saturday shifts, according to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity’s lawsuit. The case was filed at the U.S. ...
