Proposal Targeting Public Sector Unions Under White House Review

The Labor Department is moving ahead with a regulation to extend financial reporting requirements on private sector unions to public sector mid-level union chapters, setting up another Trump administration battle against the labor movement.

A final draft of the proposed rule arrived Aug. 9 at the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs for final review before public release, according to a post on OIRA’s website.

The proposal will mark the Trump administration’s attempt to restore a 2003 regulation on “intermediate bodies,” such as state, regional, or district union offices. The rule required intermediary unions to file annual financial ...
