Four University of California-Santa Cruz administrators defeated a lawsuit by a psychology professor over the alleged use of diversity, equity, and inclusion statements from job applicants during the hiring process.
The ruling by the US District Court for the Northern District of California said the professor lacked standing to sue under the First Amendment, because he never applied for a position after the adoption of the alleged policy encouraging search committees to use DEI statements during faculty selection, and providing a “detailed rubric” for evaluating applicants’ statements.
