Pritzker Signs Illinois Law Expanding Immigrant Worker Rights

Illinois further restricted the way employers can respond to notices about an employee’s work status, under an immigrant-rights bill signed into law by Gov. JB Pritzker (D).

The new law (SB 2339) limits businesses’ ability to fire immigrant workers over mismatches in their identity and work authorization documents, while expanding penalties and interested parties’ ability to sue employers over violations. The measure takes effect immediately, expanding on the state’s Right to Privacy in the Workplace Act.
