Pre-Uber ‘Dark Ages’ Message Drives California Ballot Campaign

Uber Technologies Inc., Lyft Inc., DoorDash Inc., and other gig companies have poured a record $185 million into passing a California ballot measure to keep rideshare and delivery drivers as independent contractors. The companies are trying to influence voters with an unsettling possibility: a California without convenient rides or takeout delivery.

Poll Results: A recent survey of 2,000 registered voters found 53% of likely voters would vote yes on Proposition 22, 27% plan to vote no, and 20% are unsure. More than half of respondents said they would be at least somewhat affected if Uber and Lyft no longer operated ...
