Postmates must arbitrate with more than 5,000 couriers who filed worker misclassification claims against the on-demand delivery service, a U.S. appeals court said, declining to overturn a California federal judge’s order.

In an unpublished decision, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit on Tuesday affirmed an order compelling Postmates to meet the thousands of individual demands for arbitration filed against the company last year.

The individual couriers in the case, who filed those demands for arbitration against the delivery app operator before the American Arbitration Association, were bound by contracts that kept their claims out of court. Under ...
