Postal Service Giving Up on Plan to Move To Five-Day Delivery in August, Board Says

The U.S. Postal Service announced April 10 that is abandoning its plan to move to a five-day mail delivery schedule beginning in August, but the service urged Congress to approve legislation that would let it do so in the future.

Postmaster General Patrick R. Donahoe had told reporters Feb. 6 that USPS would end Saturday service beginning the week of Aug. 5 (25 DLR A-8, 2/6/13). The plan was strongly criticized by postal unions, some of which called on the postmaster general to resign.
