Pork Producer Exploited J-1 Exchange Visa Holders, Suit Claims

A Nebraska pork producer violated anti-trafficking and racketeering laws by duping exchange visitor visa participants into working dangerous, low-paid jobs in production plants, a lawsuit alleges.

Three recent college graduates from Guatemala on J-1 visas said they were recruited for internships and training in swine production at Livingston Enterprises Inc. Instead, they claim they were forced to work physically arduous jobs like cleaning barns and assisting with sows’ birthing without proper training or equipment, an amended complaint filed Monday in the US District Court for the District of Nebraska alleges.
