Polis Vetoes Bill Restricting Self-Driving Trucks in Colorado

Colorado won’t require autonomous commercial vehicles to keep a human driver on board and supervising, after Gov. Jared Polis (D) on Friday vetoed legislation passed by the Democratic-majority legislature.

The legislation (HB 1122) would have limited the ability of trucking companies and other businesses to switch to driverless operations. The Teamsters union backed the bill and others around the country with limited success, arguing the legislation promotes safety on the highways and protects driver jobs from automation.
