The EEOC has filed a suit against Accessible Physical Therapy Services in federal district court in Maryland involving allegations of pregnancy discrimination, the agency said Thursday.
The company allegedly rescinded a job offer after the applicant disclosed her pregnancy and asked about the pregnancy leave policy. A short time later, the company hired another student from the applicant’s graduating class, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said.
Such alleged conduct violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, according to the commission.
The agency also said it is seeking injunctive relief, lost wages, and compensatory and punitive damages.
