Philadelphia will become the fifth city in the country mandating increased scheduling predictability for employees. Mayor Jim Kenney (D) Dec. 20 signed predictive scheduling legislation that was passed by the city council earlier this month.
The law will go into effect Jan. 1, 2020, and only affects workers in the retail, hospitality, and food services industries. Covered employers must employ 250 or more workers and have 30 or more locations worldwide.
The mayor also signed a bill Dec. 20 raising Philadelphia’s minimum wage to $15 an hour for all city workers, contractors, and subcontractors by July 1, 2019.
