Philadelphia Fights Off K9 Cop Dog-Care Overtime Pay Challenge

Philadelphia defeated a lawsuit claiming a years-old wage settlement with some cops who handle police dogs, reached through arbitration, runs afoul of federal overtime protections.

The officer challenging the 2021 deal—which set compensation rates through the end of this month—"already had a full and fair hearing” in line with his union’s collective bargaining agreement, the US District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania said. He “pleads no basis to find an award entered after extensive testimony (including his own) violates federal law because he thinks it is unfair,” the opinion added.
