Philadelphia Community College Beats Ex-Workers’ Age Bias Claims

The Community College of Philadelphia defeated age discrimination lawsuits alleging it eliminated a program that allowed faculty members close to retirement to cut their workload in half while retaining full benefits.

The evidence about the program’s costs and the workers’ other pre-retirement options for decreasing their hours doesn’t support any of the former faculty members’ Age Discrimination in Employment Act and state-law bias claims, the US District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania said Monday, granting the school summary judgment in three cases.
