Current and retired Pennsylvania teachers can’t sue state officials or teachers’ unions to stop them from requiring non-union members to pay “fair share” dues, a federal court said.
The U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Janus v. American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees, Council 31 mooted the teachers’ constitutional challenge to a state law that allowed unions to include provisions in collective bargaining agreements that required all public employees to pay “agency shop fees,” the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania said July 8.
