Parole Plan for Undocumented Spouses Under White House Review

July 31, 2024, 1:13 PM UTC

A rule codifying relief for undocumented spouses of US citizens is under review at the White House’s Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, a regulatory hurdle the plan must clear before public release.

President Joe Biden‘s “parole in place” plan would allow some 500,000 immigrants to apply for permanent residence and waive penalties for their unauthorized presence in the US.

The plan, announced in June, would be the broadest use yet of parole authority to offer relief to unauthorized immigrants in the country. It would also allow eligible immigrants who have been in the US for at least 10 years to apply for legal work authorization.

The regulations (1615-ZC09) were to sent to OIRA Monday, according to the Office of Management and Budget website.
