Paid Leave Supporters Applaud House Effort to Revive New Program

The resuscitation of a national paid family and medical leave program in House Democrats’ tax and social spending bill elicited sighs of relief Wednesday coupled with lingering uncertainty from supporters who have pushed for the new entitlement program for decades.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that she aims to add paid leave back into the $1.75 trillion package, after it was seemingly excluded from the framework that President Joe Biden announced last week, as Democrats pared back the overall cost.
