OSHA Proposes $274,500 in Penalties Against Bakery Firm Interstate Brands Inc.

CHICAGO—The Labor Department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration Nov. 10 announced that it had proposed fines of $274,500 against Interstate Brands Corp., alleging that the bakery products firm failed to properly train workers and protect them from hazards posed by high-speed machinery and electrical equipment.

OSHA said it had cited Interstate with 20 separate violations uncovered during two inspections of a company facility in Schiller Park, Ill.

Interstate is a component of Hostess Brands Inc. in Kansas City, Mo. Company representatives did not respond to BNA’s request for comment on the alleged violations.
