OSHA Implements New Whistle-Blower Investigator Training

Whistle-blower complaint investigators now have their own training pathway and core courses they must take, according to the Labor Department Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s directive for newly hired investigators.

The directive, issued Oct. 8, makes official training and policy changes that OSHA officials have discussed for several months, including at an April briefing for the Whistleblower Protection Advisory Committee.

Outside agencies had also sought improvements to investigator training. As recently as Sept. 30, the DOL’s Office of Inspector General called for OSHA to upgrade the whistle-blower training program.
