Orkin Can’t Exterminate Worker’s $3.7M Job Retaliation Award

A former route manager with Orkin LLC can keep the $3.7 million he was awarded after a jury found he wasn’t rehired because he had filed a discrimination complaint over his discharge, a state appeals court in Missouri ruled.

The pest-control giant failed to show the trial judge in Gary Gentry’s retaliation case under the Missouri Human Rights Act made any errors that compromised the jury’s finding, the Missouri Court of Appeals said Dec. 26.

Gentry was 61 years old at the time and was seeking to return to work after four months of medical leave for a shoulder injury. ...
