Oregon County’s Workers Strike for Wages

A strike by AFSCME Local 2831 against Lane County, Ore., headed into its second day Oct. 19 with almost half the county’s labor force not reporting for work.

Wages and a requirement that members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees make payments toward health insurance premiums for the first time are keeping the sides from an agreement, Devon Ashbridge, spokeswoman for Lane County, told Bloomberg Law. They’re scheduled to return to mediation Oct. 20, she said.
