The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is preparing for a single-day all-staff furlough at the end of August due to a budget shortfall at the civil rights agency.
EEOC Chair Charlotte Burrows in a memo viewed by Bloomberg Law alerted employees that the agency was giving notice for eight hours of furlough on Aug. 30 even after making cuts to agency spending elsewhere.
Burrows cited flat funding from Congress for the present fiscal year as the cause of the shortfall, along with a “well-deserved but unfunded” 5.2% pay increase for federal employees, the memo said.
