Oklahoma Mostly Dodges Ex-Student, Staff Suit Over Team Hazing

Oklahoma mostly defeated a lawsuit brought by a former student and coordinator who said the University of Central Oklahoma was unlawfully indifferent to their reports of sex harassment during a cheer team’s event.

Former student and cheer team member Sierra Rudman’s deliberate indifference to known acts of sexual harassment claim against the state was dismissed Nov. 18 because she failed to show the university had substantial control of parties at private residences.

The US District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma allowed fired student coordinator Calyn Boyd’s Title IX retaliation claim to proceed, but dismissed her constitutional rights claims ...
