G/O Media Inc. and Great Hill Partners LP reneged on an offer to promote The Onion Inc.'s chief resource officer because she failed to follow an order to fire the woman of color who was serving as Gizmodo’s executive vice president and editorial director, according to a lawsuit filed in federal court on Manhattan.

CEO James Spanfeller also retaliated against her by reducing her duties in breach of the contract G/O and Great Hill inherited from Univision Communications Inc. when The Onion was purchased by Great Hill in April 2019, Katherine Pontius Ebel says in a suit filed Sept. 11. ...
