NYC Transit Agency Defeats Jewish Lawyer’s Religious Bias Suit

The New York City Transit Authority fought off a lawsuit alleging it assigned a Jewish attorney more work ahead of her Sabbath observance and fired her after she spoke up about religious discrimination.

The record shows the transit agency assigned all of the lawyers in the worker’s unit “roughly the same” amount of cases, and she didn’t dispute that she wasn’t actually expected to work on the Sabbath, the US District Court for the Eastern District of New York said. The attorney also failed to link her internal bias complaint to disciplinary proceedings, the opinion added.
