NYC Health and Hospitals Settles DOJ Immigration Bias Claims

New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, which operates hospitals and clinics as a public benefit corporation, agreed to a settlement with the Department of Justice over national origin discrimination.

The corporation rejected the employment authorization document submitted by a Temporary Protected Status recipient, according to a DOJ announcement Thursday. NYCHH delayed onboarding the worker based on the assumption that their country of birth listed on the document must be the same as the country designated for TPS, the DOJ said.

The public hospital operator denied any wrongdoing as part of the settlement.
