New York City would become one of only a few jurisdictions in the US to ban discrimination against workers based on their height or weight under legislation headed to Mayor Eric Adams’ desk.
The legislation (Int. 0209-2022) would add weight and height to the list of protected categories in New York City’s Human Rights Law. The law bans discrimination in employment, housing, and places of public accommodation. The bill awaits a signature from Adams (D) after the New York City Council passed it 44-5 on Thursday.
