A New York plumbing and HVAC company agreed to settle claims that they required employees to sign an unlawful “stay-or-pay” contract, unlawfully terminated three employees, and unlawfully interfered with employees’ union and protected activities, the National Labor Relations Board announced Tuesday.
According to the NLRB, Maxwell Plumb Mechanical must reinstate three unlawfully terminated employees and pay them a total of $81,000, which includes compensation for back pay and financial harms that they suffered because of the company’s conduct. The company will also cease requiring employees to reimburse them for training costs if the employees stop working for them.
