NLRB Dials Back Employers’ Authority to Act Unilaterally (1)

The National Labor Relations Board in two decisions tore down a Trump-era precedent that gave employers broad latitude to change job terms without negotiating with unions.

With Wednesday’s pair of rulings overturning the 2017 decision in Raytheon Network Centric Systems, the Democratic NLRB members potentially eased collective bargaining over labor agreements by dialing back employers’ unilateral power over working conditions.

In Wendt Corp., the board struck down the part of Raytheon that expanded employers’ ability to make unilateral changes affecting a unionized workforce during a contractual hiatus or during negotiations for a first contract.
