NLRB Blesses George Washington University Hospital’s Bargaining

A divided National Labor Relations Board signed off on George Washington University Hospital’s conduct in labor contract negotiations that culminated in the hospital unilaterally ousting the union that had represented its support staff for more than 20 years.

The NLRB majority Friday reversed an administrative law judge’s 2019 ruling that the hospital had committed a series of serious labor law violations as part of an anti-union campaign. The Washington, D.C.-based hospital is owned and operated by the university and health-care giant Universal Health Services Inc.
