NLRB Approves Ikea ‘Micro Unit’ Union Election in California

The National Labor Relations Board signed off on a union election at an Ikea distribution facility in a ruling that developed the board’s legal test for approving smaller bargaining units within larger workforces.

The NLRB upheld a regional director’s decision permitting a union election for a unit of 15 maintenance and power equipment technicians at an Ikea Distribution Services Inc., location in Lebec, Calif. The company had argued that the unit should have also included the other 404 hourly workers at the distribution plant.
