NLRB Appoints First-Ever Chief AI Officer to Oversee New Tech

The National Labor Relations Board has named long-time agency attorney David Gaston to oversee the NLRB’s use of artificial intelligence.

As the board’s first chief AI officer, Gaston will ensure the agency complies with President Joe Biden’s 2023 executive order governing federal use of the rapidly evolving technology, according to an NLRB statement Thursday.

The October order directed agencies to establish a chief AI officer and broadly tasked them with deploying new technologies while also assessing and managing privacy, safety, and discrimination concerns.
