Ninth Circuit Grants Rehearing Over Migrant Protected Status

The US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit will grant a rehearing by the full court of a lawsuit seeking to maintain protections for migrants from countries including El Salvador and Nicaragua.

The plaintiffs sued in 2018 after then-President Donald Trump’s administration sought to rollback Temporary Protected Status designations covering more than 300,000 individuals. The status allows immigrants to apply for work permits and protections from removal if conditions like armed conflict or natural disasters make it unsafe to return to their home countries.
