Nexstar Gets Rare NLRB Order to Reimburse Workers for Bargaining

Nexstar Broadcasting Inc. must reimburse union workers at an Oregon television station for earnings lost while attending bargaining sessions with the company, the National Labor Relations Board said, marking the first time the board has handed down that remedy in more than 30 years.

Two Democrats on a three-member NLRB panel said paying back workers who served on their union’s bargaining committee is appropriate because Nexstar is a “repeat violator” of federal labor law. The board previously warned the company that extraordinary remedies might be imposed if it continued to commit unfair labor practices, according to Wednesday’s ruling.
