New York Times’ Wirecutter Staff Unionizes

About 80 editorial employees at Wirecutter, an online product review publication owned by The New York Times Co., voted to unionize April 2. Nearly 90 percent of the employees were in favor of organizing, according to the union.

The staff members will be affiliated with the NewsGuild of New York, a Communications Workers of America affiliate that already represents about 1,200 New York Times staff.

Wirecutter staff said they were organizing to preserve benefits and work culture that have been part of the company since its 2011 founding and 2016 acquisition by The New York Times.
