New York would require job postings to include a timeframe for hiring, under legislation headed to Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) that seeks to address the phenomenon of “ghost job” ads.
The legislation (S8877) would mandate that employers provide the expected timing for making a hire or say if they’re soliciting resumes for potential future positions rather than an active job opening.
Job seekers and policymakers have voiced rising concerns about ghost ads, which allegedly seek applicant data or give the appearance of an employment opportunity when the company isn’t actually hiring.
